My Challenge
I was tasked with creating an illustrated logo, harnessing the styling of an 80’s/ 90’s Japanese anime, while keeping the recognition of the owner and brand clear.

Concepting and Sketching
When starting any sort of illustration project, I like to first get pencil to paper before taking things digital. This helps me get concepts out more fluidly and organically. The beauty of sketches is that they are imperfect, whereas moving to a digital space has a level of precision. This also helps save time, effort, and cost by first concepting through sketching.
Variants provided through sketched concepts:
Poses, expressions, and emotions.
Differing art styles and logic behind what they may convey to potential customers.
In order to achieve the look and feel my client was looking for, I would need to illustrate and “paint” this logo out digitally. While not having a fully vectorized logo can be scary for some, I fully believe that you can make illustrated logos just as scalable with the right settings.
This was accomplished by:
Utilizing a high DPI and image resolution which allows for better scaling of the “painted” layers.
Preserving the vector of the outline so crisp edges have no quality loss.
